Our Story
How the shop came to be.
Christensen Tailoring started as most small shops do — with one person, a rented worktable, and a short list of clients patient enough to see something through. Erik Christensen had spent four years apprenticing under a Chicago coatmaker who himself had learned the trade on Savile Row, and he came back to Denver wanting to build something quieter than a full-service atelier and more considered than a chain alterations counter.
The Larimer shop opened in 2018 in what had been a stockroom above a bookshop. It is still, essentially, one fitting room, one workbench, and a small library of cloth books. The work has grown — a second fitter, a proper pattern library, a house block that took years to refine — but the size of the shop has not, and by design, will not.
What we make is made slowly. That's the whole idea, and it's the only claim the shop makes.
